This piece was commissioned by Sidaction which is a is a major French public event that started in 1994 in France for raising awareness and collecting charitable funds for AIDS. It’s part of a publication that compiles artwork from multiple different queer artists and celebrates all forms of Queer love and love making, whilst still acknowledging how important sexual health and protection is.
I like to imagine a storyline for these characters, this First image is further along in their relationship (from the illustration in the second spot). It tells a story of an evolution within a pansexual relationship, of both partners changing individually and becoming more themselves whilst also standing by each other throughout the process. I don’t think I realised it until I’d completed this one, over a year after I’d drawn the first, but putting the illustrations side by side I can see that they tell the story (whether intentional or not) that queer love comes in all forms and that is something that should be celebrated!
