Queer Banner making workshop Outcomes
I've worked with Queer youth from QYAC and young Homotopia as part of a collaborative workshop, which myself and a drag /textile artists created. The session took place in Tate Liverpool and was centred around protest, pride and positive affirmations. As a group we created protest banners. We wanted it to be a space full of conversations, questions and acceptance and that was reflected not only in the art that was made but also through the topics we discussed.
We spoke about Identity politics, rainbow washing, Palestine, wedge issues to name but a few. I know conversations and spaces such as these would have been invaluable to me as a young queer person. Using art as a means of expression can be very beneficial for LGBTQIA+ individuals because we often face challenges in self-expression and identification, artistic processes and outcomes offer a visual representation that goes beyond words
